Timofey Kurgin finances social and charitable projects in Russia on regular basis. Speaking about this, the businessman displays the following formula for himself: «I invest money in social projects because this is my country, my children live and grow here, I grew up here and that's what a person's attitude to his homeland should be».
In 2017, in the village of Listvyanka of the Irkutsk Region, on the initiative of Kurgin, the chapel of St. Nicholas of Japan was opened. St. Nicholas of Japan is the Archbishop of the Russian Church, the missionary, the founder of the Orthodox Church in Japan.
The chapel was built next to the cemetery of the Japanese war prisoners forming a single memorial complex in commemoration of the important missionary activities of Archbishop Nicholas. The opening of the chapel and the improvement of the cemetery of Japanese war prisoners was a tribute and a response to the attitude of the Japanese to the Russian military graves in the country after the war of 1904-1905.
On September 22, 2018, with the support of Timofey Kurgin, in the village of Shelkovskaya (Chechen Republic), there was an opening of the new Orthodox Church in honor of the holy Great Martyr Barbara. An important fact is that a significant part of the Shelkovskaya population for a long time were representatives of the Terek Cossacks. As noted by Timofey Kurgin, his maternal great-grandfather Ivan Kotlyarov was a Terek Cossack. Timofey named one of his sons in honor of his great-grandfather.
The initiator of the Church complex construction, which includes the first Orthodox school in the Republic, the abbot's house and the refectory building, was the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, who supported the project at all stages of its' implementation.
Daniil Martynov – the security unit assistant of the Chechen Republic head – became the project supervisor from laying the first stone until the end of the mural of the Church.
In the future, the «Russian Forest» Foundation plans to create educational institutions for talented children in Russian regions. One of the important areas for these institutions Timofey Kurgin calls «education in the faith».
«I respect people with any convictions, but I believe that religion helps believers to take more care for any person and consider this person as a brother. It helps to solve many problems and eliminate military, religious and ethnic conflicts. Religion, as conscience and upbringing, can be important restriction, without which doing business and making money in the modern world is extremely dangerous. Of course if being an honest person that children and grandchildren could be proud of is important for you».
