On September 22nd, 2018, in Shelkovskaya (Chechen Republic), the grand opening of a new Orthodox church in honor of the holy Great Martyr Barbara took place. The temple complex includes the first Orthodox school in the Republic, the abbot's house, the refectory building and a pilgrim hotel.

The Chechen Republic head Ramzan Kadyrov attended the opening ceremony, as well as the presidential envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District - Alexander Matovnikov.

The temple had been destroyed in the 1930s. With the support of the «Russian Forest» Charitable Foundation President Timofey Kurgin the complex was rebuilt. The process began in the spring of 2017 after orthodox Christians addressed Ramzan Kadyrov with a request.
